The Fresno State Bulldogs (8-4) will take on the New Mexico State Aggies (10-4) in the Isleta New Mexico Bowl on December 16, 2023. The bowl will be nationally televised on ESPN.
Earlier this week, Fresno was dealt a serious blow. The team announced that they'll be without legendary head coach Jeff Tedford for the bowl game. A statement released by Terry Tumey, Fresno's Athletics Director, says Tedford is, "...stepping away from his duties effective immediately to address personal health concerns." This is not the first time Coach Tedford has "stepped away" due to health issues. In 2014, while with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tedford missed most of the season due to heart problems. In late 2019, Coach Tedford resigned as head coach of Fresno State due to heart issues. We wish Coach Tedford and his family the very best! We hope for a smooth and swift recovery. You got this, Coach! ♥
Tim Skipper, assistant head coach and linebacker coach will serve as interim head coach for the bowl game. Coach Skipper, who once coached linebackers and running backs for Fresno State under Coach Pat Hill, has an impressive record. Skipper has coached for programs such as Florida, UNLV, and Colorado State to name a few.
